Introductions and Cowboys
Hello,
For as long as i can remember i have been a bit of a day dreamer. Some times it can get in the way of things, like every life for example. But it has also been fascinating to see where my imagination will take me while waiting for something real to happen. so im hoping i can use this space to keep track of the strange places ive been to in my mind, and hopefully it won’t be used to one day prove ive always been crazy..
so yesterday, while thinking about how Im going to start studying for my next exam (im finish an undergrad degree in polisci), my mind started to wander. I pictured myself and my cousin on the london underground at halloween next year. we were both dressed as cowboys, though for my cousin that wasn’t necessarily a costume. we had the rugged jeans with the muddy cuffs. well worn-in boots, no spurs though (a real cowboy doesn’t need spurs), plain long-sleeve collared shirts, and we each had a nice dark hat. My cousin and i had been awake for quite awhile so we were as stretched out as we could be on those tiny tube seats trying to get a little shut-eye. naturally the brim my hat was low on my forehead to block the light.
we could hear people whispering about us in the background, i guess its not every day you see two canadian cowboys on the tube. there were a few jokes (brokeback ones to be sure), a few turned heads, but mostly people left us be. there was nearly a confrontation with some young guys who thought we looked sufficiently out of place that they could take advantage of us, but nothing materialized of the situation when we stood up and they realized we weren’t just pretend cowboys. there is a good deal to be said for how a people present themselves. if you look the part, and are confident enough to act the part, you can be anyone you want to. it’s remarkably easy.
when we got to our stop we got off the tube, mindful of the stupid gap, smiled to the girls we could hear giggling (who were, needless to say, super cute), and made our way to the pub near our flat. and that was pretty much it.
I find most often there is very little point to the stories that go through my head. more often than not what i picture is a breif scenario of some description, sometimes there is a plot but not always. but whatever the dream may be, its always an enjoyable distraction from whatever else im doing. Im sure im not alone in this. but for whatever its worth, im going to start keeping track of it all.
